If you do play an MMORPG — whether it’s Final Fantasy XIV, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Elder Scrolls Online, any of them — grab your mates or a guild mate, have a conversation to set the expectations, and then try and do something non-optimal.

Try and fish in a bad place; try and go through a dungeon using less than the best equipment that you’ve got; try and speedrun something that’s not meant to be speedrun. But you have to give yourself a handicap. Specifically try and, instead of min-maxing, max-min something. Try and do something silly and see if, even just for a moment, it reignites that spark of ‘this is why I fell in love with gaming’.
